I recently had the pleasure of seeing Michael Gira perform again and it reminded me of the power of consistency. This is a man that has been wearing big hats and suspenders for a good chunk of his career. There is something to be said for maintaining an image and controlling it as an artist. The old-timeyness of his image fits so perfectly with his voice, and he was doing it way before freak folk was a glimmer in indie rock’s eye. Here is my ode to his awesome hat and, of course, the music of Swans:
